Beat Exam Stress with some or all of these methods….
Magnesium – the master mineral that is the best for de-stressing. Magnesium is best absorbed via the skin either bathe in Epsom Salts, use a Magnesium Spray or Body Lotion. We do bags of Epsom Salts from 2.45 which are naturally mined and Magnesium Oil Sprays from 2.95. Magnesium is the master mineral and helps relax muscles, nervous system and aids sleep (and so much more besides). Use the spray or lotion on tension spots such as neck and shoulder, solar plexus area and tummy if feeling jittery. Magnesium also helps prevent insomnia and can help you get a good night’s sleep an estimate is that up to 70% of insomnia can be cured with increased magnesium levels.
Aromatherapy – condition your mind when you are feeling really relaxed with a blend aromatherapy oils , you can also use some specific oils for studying such as basil, rosemary and peppermint. Put a few drops of oils on a hankie and sniff during the exam to help with recall. We have many blended oils (one specifically for study) plus aromatherapy roller balls and inhalers such as focus, de-stress, relaxation and refresh. Aromas are very evocative and you can condition associations with certain aromas to maximise recall and to help relaxation.

Water – the brain and heart is made up of 73% water and our brain needs hydration as it uses an enormous amount of energy. We also live in the “age of aluminium” which can have a disabling effect on the brain causes brain fog, cognitive dysfunction, mood swings and a host of other ailments (it is linked to alzheimers) so drinking Silica Rich Water such as Acilis can literally help flush out aluminium lodged in the brain. So you can hydrate and detox at the same time. Only silica rich waters do this Acilis by Spritzer is our favoured brand as 10p is donated to Keele University for the amazing research that Professor Chris Exley’s team are working on. Other waters rich in silica are Fiji and Volvc, although Volvic is not as high in silica as Acilis.
CBD oil – hemp oil extracted from the cannabis sativa plant (the legal type with negligible amounts of THC which is the part that gets you stoned) may help ease anxiety, increase deeper sleep levels and helps with a myriad of conditions. It helps bring homeostasis to the body as the naturally occurring cannabinoids in CBD oil latch on to our own endocannabinoid system (ECS), a group of receptors found in every organ of the human body. These receptors are involved in the regulation of appetite, mood, immune system function and pain management.
Fuel – avoid sugary cereals, fizzy & energy drinks. Try drinking chamomile or other herbal teas to keep you calm and refreshed. Eat good fats such as avocado and coconut which are great fuels for your brain and try good sources of protein (chia seeds, eggs), and stock up on healthy snacks such as carrot batons, cucumber & peppers
Bach Rescue Remedy – there are lots of testimonies to the efficacy of this calming liquid drops which works really well to de-stress so you can use a few drops on the morning of the exam for some emotional rescue!
Exercise – a little exercise, a brisk walk or my favourite, a jogette (walk a bit, jog a bit) is great to relieve tension and help relax you.
Mindful Meditation – it can take just 7 minutes to help reboot your brain. Simply set your phone for 7 minutes on a timer, breathe and just focus on a word that invokes calm, like Shalom or whatever that it for you.
Sentiment stones – using something sensory (if you are allowed in class) like these stones can help create a sense of calm. You can use alongside your mindful meditation.
SWITCH OFF! Mobile: Turn your mobile phone on to airplane mode at night. The phone is trying to get signals whilst still on and these can interfere with brain waves and disrupt sleep. If you are using your phone as an alarm then it will still work in airplane mode.
We hope these tips help you create the best conditions for you to help you relax & focus and optimise your brain health. Let us know how you get on!
